In essence, nature is going to force us all down to sustainable energy levels one way or another. The amount of trauma we suffer will be down to how we respond to the unfolding crisis. If we get it right we will be going back to the 1970s - minus the cars. But if we get it wrong we will be going back to the stone age - minus most of us.

But first the good news :-

• Oil is not going to run out for decades.
• Global Warming will start to ease up a bit.
• The village shop is coming back.

• The amount of oil available will decrease every year after 2008 and is going to get more and more expensive, as will anything made from it like petrol, diesel, plastic and electricity.
• The airline industry probably wont make it past 2015.
• Many traditional car manufacturers wont either.
• The tourism industry will having some serious challenges to overcome - like no tourists.
• Wars will be fought over diminishing oil supplies. Most will be seen as a pointless waste of time and resources.
• The reliable utilities (water, electricity, gas, ...) we have become used to will become a lot less reliable. Many will lose them altogether.
• Many will die due to war, disease, heat, cold, thirst, starvation and suicide.
• Most space projects will be cancelled.
• Many governments will be forced to slow down their economies to reduce fuel consumption.
• Hyper-inflation will render many currencies worthless forcing the users to barter until their economies settle down.
